Solar Equinox 2016 (election autumn)

September 22, 2016

midsummer allegory

This is the point in the year where day and night are equal in length; the nights will grow ever longer until midwinter here in the northern hemisphere.  The United States will get out to vote their hopes (and fears) after a final harried month of advertising, wrapped up by the final harvest festival, Samhain.

Those of us who honour the lunar calendar have already celebrated a week ago at the Harvest Moon. Animals were blessed, bounty was gathered to feast, pilgrimages made to sacred waters.

Cast your vote for living or dying now.

Pisces New Moon Solar Eclipse -Equinox Guest Repost- OMTimes Magazine

March 19, 2015

“This Pisces New Moon is at the very last degree of Pisces and of the zodiac. The location is sometimes called the degree of ultimate sorrow, because it contains all  existence and carries the pain and suffering of every living being.  The degree is also conjunct the first degree of the zodiac, known as the Aries point. This location is significant for the collective, because the degree connects individuals to the world at large.  The upshot? This Pisces New Moon blurs boundaries and scrambles personal experience with everyone else’s. We may be flooded by compassion; we may simply be flooded. (Empaths, prepare to wring yourselves out.)

The timing of this eclipse is another factor. The Pisces New Moon comes 13 hours before the vernal equinox, the moment the sun enters Aries and officially launches spring. Even though the Sun and the Moon will have moved on from Pisces at the equinox, they’ll still be resonating with the eclipse that drop-kicked them across the line — as will the entire spring.

This Pisces New Moon is not merely ending winter and ushering in the next season, though. The event is also taking us from long and painful life-reshaping tumult into situations that will ultimately calm and settle. It’s the lead-out for the final Uranus/Pluto square, the last lurch in the radical foundational restructuring we have all been undergoing since 2012.

That process has been rocky to the max. Think of where you were three years ago (try seven, if you really want to open your mind) and compare it to now. How much of your old life remains, especially inside of you? The worst of the upheaval subsided by last fall, when we finally had the opportunity to begin to work with the changes instead of fight and scream and resist.

Until the last two weeks, that is, when hothead Mars joined Uranus’ rebel outfit and did battle with Pluto and demons from the depths. That set off nigh-on apocalyptic breakdowns and reckonings, which escalated frustration, fury, adrenalin bursts and swearing jags, when then armed and motivated us for the tectonic plate shifting of the final square.

After that, who wouldn’t benefit from some emotional release? The solar eclipse is providing that, in spades. Reactions are pouring out to more than this week, more than this month, more than one individual experience. Don’t hold back. Don’t judge other people, either, even if they look to be going overboard, from your perspective. We’ve all got a backlog of pent-up emotion.

Let it go. Let it flow. It’s watering the restructured turf on which you’re building the next stage of your life. It’s fueling the growth coming in the spring. That’ll happen on an accelerated schedule and bring upgrades you can’t yet foresee. Trust that. And ride the waves. Even the big one.”

The solar eclipse will be visible in the morning in GMT – Europe-Africa; in North America it will still be night. I expect some amazing dreams.

Rosebud Sioux Tribe: House Vote in Favor of the Keystone XL an Act of War | Earth First! Newswire

Rosebud Sioux Tribe: House Vote in Favor of the Keystone XL an Act of War | Earth First! Newswire.

The tribe has done its part to remain peaceful in its dealing with the United States in this matter, in spite of the fact that the Rosebud Sioux Tribe has yet to be properly consulted on the project, which would cross through tribal land, and the concerns brought to the Department of Interior and to the Department of State have yet to be addressed.

“The House has now signed our death warrants and the death warrants of our children and grandchildren. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe will not allow this pipeline through our lands,” said President Scott of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. “We are outraged at the lack of intergovernmental cooperation. We are a sovereign nation and we are not being treated as such. We will close our reservation borders to Keystone XL. Authorizing Keystone XL is an act of war against our people.”

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe, along with several other South Dakota Tribes, stand together in opposition to risky and dangerous fossil fuel projects like TransCanada’s Keystone XL. The proposed route of TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline crosses directly through Great Sioux Nation (Oceti Sakowin) Treaty lands as defined by both the 1851 and 1868 Fort Laramie Treaties and within the current exterior boundaries of the Rosebud Sioux Reservation and Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.

guest post: The Dark Side of Druidry

The Dark Side of Druidry.

Some are called to be activists and radicals. I admire their work, but it’s not work I can do, any more than I can carry a spear in the front lines against the legions (which is to say it’s possible but it would not be effective and it would not end well).

But I can do what the ancient Druids did. I can encourage those who are fighting the battles. I can support them physically, spiritually, emotionally, and financially.

spear in treeI can be a Nature-loving presence in a Nature-exploiting world. I can raise awareness, but raising awareness is an overrated (or at least, overused) tactic. Thinking good thoughts is nice, but it only helps if those good thoughts turn into good actions. Bardic work can help people of good will to wake up and start doing something.

Between Winter Solstice and Imbolc | pathofthepriestess.

Bonus serpent wisdom from Philip Shallcrass of the Druid Forum on Facebook:

An old Scottish charm for Candlemas morning:
“Early on Bride’s morn
The serpent shall come from the hole,
I will not molest the serpent,
Nor will the serpent molest me.”
‘In our native traditions, serpents have power to harm or heal. The serpent of Bride represents the power of life and light that stirs in the earth with the first stirrings of springtime, also represented by the appearance of snowdrops. May all be blessed with the renewal of light.’

Wolf spider is your friend, if you see him at this time of year. He and Daddy Long-legs want to keep down pests in your corners and survive the cold, nothing more. Let them live until spring, light your fires and drink your winter ale. Small signs reassure us that the cold will end.

A Winter Solstice Tale: Ereshkigal & Our Beauty and Wounding | Path of She

A Winter Solstice Tale: Ereshkigal & Our Beauty and Wounding | Path of She.

Solstice Inanna/Ereshkigal.

The bright Venus sister of fertility and war went under the earth voluntarily, in most ancient times. Unlike Kore/Persephone, she did not have to be kidnapped and carried there. And as she entered each of the inner gates she gave up another layer of outer ornament until there was nothing left to give up but her life– like a plant going to seed.

Ereshkigal held her there until the time for rebirth had come. Then a bee came and carried news of Inanna to the surface. Very soon she arose in all her youth and strength and tossed out the usurper to her throne at the vernal equinox. Similarly, Persephone/Kore had in her belly the seeds of the pomegranate she had eaten that mandated her return to the throne of Hades after gladdening the earth and her mother Demeter.

The Greeks were wholly upon Demeter’s side, not valuing the land of the dead or understanding the unseen source of earth’s fertility. Ereshkigal, Mesopotamia’s ruler of the dead, lives in a land of mushrooms and feathers and meathooks. All these things need to be rendered unto her to keep the lands of the living fit for the mortal beings.

Now, in the dark, in the hiatus, in the decrease of light, prepare the seed.

Symbolism of the Pineal Gland – Temple Illuminatus

Nature is good. And the microcosm is a gateway to the macrocosm. In fact, it is the only reliable one, completely subject to the individual’s workings. External achievements will crumble or conflict with those of others, equally short-sighted as ourselves.

The New Year begun on Samhain is also a turning within in the north, a time for inner work. In the south it is a time to prepare for planting. The external world is not quite ready to sow anything, even there.

My nation has moved Thanksgiving– which in Canada occurs before All Hallows– even closer to the Christmas buying frenzy. Our thanks is not on the third Thursday this year, but the fourth Thursday… our thanks will be thin fertilizer for the future after winter’s trials. Touch the seed within. Re-align. Ground. Remember. Peace peace peace.

Constructing an enemy « Druid Life

August 9, 2012

Constructing an enemy « Druid Life.

This is by my British Druid friend Nimue Brown.

“However, most of us use concepts of opposition to help develop a sense of self. We know who we are, in part by being able to point at what we are not. To do this in any meaningful way, it is necessary to know the ‘other’ or we may just be indulging our prejudices. Sometimes what we hate most in others, is a reflection of the things we do not like about ourselves, so looking deeply is important or we can easily miss something…”

From Chakra Healing and Karmic Awareness by Keith Sherwood (2005 Llewellyn Publications, St. Paul Mn USA)  :

“Below you will find a series of commitments that will sever your links to non-physical beings outside your energy field… and will bring you in accord with the will of the Self as it emerges through your higher and lower mind. In addition, these commitments will safeguard your energy field from any further intrusions of non-physical beings by strengthening your boundaries on all worlds anbd dimensions, including the world of spirit, intellect, soul, lower mind, world of the chakras, and the levels of the splenic chakras.

If you know it’s appropriate to make these commitments and you know you will keep them permanently, then simply read the commitments below, repeat them out loud, and affirm, “I agree to these three commitments.”

The first is:

“If  I have given permission or inadvertently given permission for any nonphysical beings to be in my world of my spirit, my world of my intellect, my world of my soul, my world of my chakras, my world of my lower mind, my level of my upper splenic chakra, and my level of my splenic chakra, I revoke that permission now and permanently in the future.”

The second is:

“It is my desire and my will that all non-physical beings depart from my world of my spirit, my world of my intellect, my world of my soul, my world of my chakras, my world of my lower mind, my level of my upper splenic chakra, and my level of my lower splenic chakra now, and remain permanently outside them in the future. I want you to leave now.”

The third is:

My world of my spirit, my world of my intellect, my world of my soul, my world of my chakras, my world of my lower mind, my level of my upper splenic chakra, and level of my splenic chakra are my sacred space. It is my desire and my will that they be occupied solely by myself and the light of God now and permanently in the future.”

If you know it’s appropriate to make these commitments and you know you will keep them for the rest of your life, affirm out loud, “I agree to these three commitments.”

By making these commitments (it’s only necessary to make them once) and keeping them, you will be taking responsibility for your inner life and will be committing yourself to a life of personal integrity and truth.  In addition, you will be signifying your intent to put union with the Self (god, universal life force) above the needs and desires of the mundane world which emergeexclusively from your individual mind and ego.

Many people before you have made these commitments and have experienced an immediate shift in their condition, as prana– which had been blocked and prevented from radiating freely by subfields of qualified energy and non-physical beings– is set free…Although you may not have been aware of the cause and effect relationship between non-physical beings within your energy field and your internal state of well-being, the fact is that non-physical beings integrated into and feeding from the individual mind and ego are the greatest cause of human suffering.”

Helgaleena knows it is theseason for spring cleaning. In order to get anything in the external world accomplished, I needed first to do something about my personal condition. I dig out of the accumulated piles of exfoliated skin cells and dust bunnies and discover there is air warm enough to fling open a window or two. I spring forward.

If your personal domestic space is better order than mine, perhaps you are ready to journey forth to new dimensions. Bon voyage.
